Born in the Italian Alps, Alberto Frigo has lived and worked in Europe, North America and China. After leading several projects at MIT and Harvard Univeristy he undertook a doctorate in Stockholm and he is currently mainly focusing on the construction of a building in the Italian Alps where to host his 36 years long project. He has been a teacher and a researcher contributing to the topic of archiving as not a dominant practice but rather as a precarious practice conducted by individuals to “stow” reality within established containers (cabinets or architectures) in order to rescue it and later “regenerate” it from a crisis. Using examples such as August Sander, Dziga Vertov and Vivian Maier, he has therefore coined the term “stowing” in relation to archiving, hoarding, logging and storing.
